Introduction

Thank God For Bitcoin (TGFB) is a Christian education platform and yearly conference that explores the intersection between religion, technology, economics, history and why Bitcoin is an ethical antidote to society’s moral and financial degradation. The stakeholders wanted to create a visual identity that blends and communicates both the religious and technological worlds.

When we think of religion we usually wander into humanity’s past, ancient stories and the lives of our distant ancestors.

TGFB invites us to look forward to a future where freedom tech like Bitcoin creates a more just, kind, and equal world.

The Vision

To create an approachable, modern brand that attracts Christians to learn about Bitcoin, the downsides of fiat currency, and how Bitcoin is a tool that can be used for God’s glory and the good of people everywhere.

Process

TOOLS

1. CONCEPT

The project began with the usual discovery workshop to get an understanding of the vision, strategy and direction of the brand and business.

This workshop presented an interesting design challenge of needing to create a visual identity that walks the line between communicating religious imagery and technology. The business had a logo so the main task was to develop everything around that.

I then created the concept deck where I explored and iterated on some core brand concepts, before arriving at two possible visual directions to present to the stakeholders.

Once the mood boards were approved the visual development around the logo then took place, which focused on typography, graphics and colour palette.

‘PP Eiko’ was the winning serif font chosen and was chosen for its angular, geometric look that feels like a modern take on old gothic type.

From Past to Present

The concept behind the graphics was largely inspired by blending old gothic visual motifs, like church window patterns, with more modern technological ones like the compositions of electrical circuitry and grids.

Iconography

The illustration style that I developed was inspired by mixing Medieval biblical drawings, geometric illustration and gothic stained glass windows.

The Conference

We then applied the visual identity to various branded assets for the second TGFB conference event in Miami.

We created assets like social media templates and a one pager document to send to potential sponsors and investors of the Miami conference.

“Cain’s work is just astounding. I cannot stop staring at our branding and I don’t get tired from doing it. A huge thank you for such a smooth process and helping TFGB to be what it is. ”
